Improving the Conservation Value of Working Lands
As director for the Conservation Science of Military Landscapes program at Archbold Biological Station, I oversee Archbold's efforts for bird research at DeLuca Preserve, a working cattle ranch in south-central Florida. Our primary efforts at DeLuca are to monitor and manage for endangered Florida Grasshopper Sparrows and other grassland birds of conservation concern (e.g., Eastern Meadowlark, Northern Bobwhite, Bachman's Sparrow) in an effort to find synergies between management for birds and productive cattle farming.
