Conservation of Imperiled Species on Military Landscapes
As program director for Archbold Biological Station's Conservation Science of Military Landscapes program, I oversee Archbold's efforts to monitor and conduct research on imperiled bird species, including the Florida Grasshopper Sparrow, Florida Scrub-Jay, and Red-cockaded Woodpecker, on the Avon Park Air Force Range (APAFR). Since the 1990s, Archbold has partnered with the U. S. Air Force, and more recently the U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service, to help monitor and manage the three species at APAFR. Additionally, Archbold collaborates with other partners to investigate factors driving avian populations on the surrounding lands of the APAFR Sentinel Landscape.
